amboflon® PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride - CAS No.: 24937-79-9) is a high-performance, semi-crystalline thermoplastic resin and belongs to the group of the Polyhalogenolefins. Available as
granules, powder and reinforced compound. Typical applications are chemical plant construction, the food-, medical- and semiconductor-industries.
Fluoro content: 57%
Long-term use temperature: (-)60 - (+)150°C
Short-term use temperature: +180°C
Thermal decomposition: 375 - 410°C
Melting temperature: 165 - 175°C
Density: 1.76 - 1.78 g/cm³
Tensile strength: 40 - 60MPa
Fracture: 25 - 300%
Tensile modulus: 2000 - 2900MPa
Depending on the thermal treatment of the parts produced, the crystallinity gets higher or lower. Fast-cooled films, for example, become transparent. Parts tempered at 130-140°C, on the other
hand, become highly crystalline and stiff. High frequency applications lead to gradual degradation of the polymer.
Due to its FDA conformity and the general physiological harmlessness of amboflon® PVDF, it is possible to issue safety certificates for manufactured parts made of this material in accordance with
Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004.
Above the decomposition temperature of 375°C, toxic and corrosive fire gases form. Please refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet when processing.
amboflon® PVDF is characterized by the highest resistance of all fluoroplastics to high-energy radiation. Right after PTFE, PVDF is the most weather-resistant fluoroplastic. It is highly pure,
very resistant to chlorine, bromine and UV radiation. In addition, PVDF exhibits excellent resistance to gasoline, aliphatic hydrocarbons, halogenated solvents, amines, ammonia, anillin, acids,
hydrogen peroxide and hot water. Limited resistance has PVDF against benzene, aromatic hydrocarbons and phenols. PVDF is not resistant to esters, ketones, NaOH, KOH and pyridine.
amboflon® PVDF is self-extinguishing and is therefore classified according to
UL-94 (DIN EN 60695-11-10) in V-0.
Process: injection molding, extrusion, coating
Extrusion, injection molding: 200 - 270°C (tools 60 - 90°C)
Coating (casting, dipping, spraying): 190 - 215°C
The PVDF melt must not come in contact with boron-containing materials (cylinder, screw, etc.) or MoS2. This can lead to the degradation of the melt. In addition, only amboflon®-color masterbatches and fillers recommended by us should be used. Bonding with adhesive lacquers or two-component adhesives as well as the
usual welding processes are applicable.
